This design-build-finance project included reconstruction of SR-826 (limited access) from SW 24th St to SW 72nd St, including three major interchanges in Miami-Dade County; SW 40th St., SW 56th St., and the SR-874 system to system connection. All structures required phased construction and major MOT shifts on the SR-826 mainline, as well as the interphase of SR-826 to SR-874. Four major skewed/curved steel plate girder bridges were replaced over major roads and the CSX ROW. Extensive construction coordination with the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) for access to their system and to avoid conflicts with the MDX project to the south, especially in regards to construction of sound barrier walls was required. The project required installation of several major DMS structures, tie-in of ITS system to system and ITS backbone connections. Substantial coordination with CSX facility management and special peer review, as well as extensive public involvement with several neighborhoods, businesses, and individual citizens to ensure that interchange and mainline construction activities were completed with as little impact as possible. The project was completed on time and within budget.
